| Bringing
your television to Cyprus Cyprus transmits its television signals in PAL, in VHF and UHF. Some televisions are able to receive different transmitted frequencies. The most common settings are PAL, SECAM, or NTSC. PAL: Phase Alternation Line. Developed in Germany. Based on the NTSC system, and modified to avoid colour distortion. Broadcasting began 1967. SECAM: Sequential Couleur Avec Memoire. Developed in France. Broadcasting began 1967. NTSC: National Television System Committee. Developed in and primarily used in the U.S., it was the world's first colour television system. Broadcasting began 1954. Depending on the make and model of your television you may be able to adjust to the settings for Cyprus, (check your television manual), then simply tune in. There are six channels transmitting nationally and two local channels in the Paphos area. If you are unable to re-set the television yourself, you will need to take it to a technician. The approximate cost to recalibrate the crystals should be around CY£30.00 Alternatively you could arrange to adjust your television in your own country, most technicians will know how. We have prepared a list of television settings for various countries. If your country has the same settings as Cyprus you will be able to bring it here without making any changes. |
