Cyprus has 108 dams and reservoirs, over 50 of which are sufficiently large enough to be Registered at the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD), 18 of these large dams are the off-stream pond design, the largest of which is Kouris dam in the Limassol district. There are also dams in the districts of Paphos, Larnaka, Nicosia and Famagusta. The development of the water sources since the independence of Cyprus in 1960 has been impressive if compared to other countries of this size and development level. The total water storage capacity of these Cyprus dams and reservoirs is approximately 330,000,000 m3. In January 2020, Cyprus dams were at 96.9% capacity. Below is a table showing details of the largest dams and reservoirs in Cyprus in decreasing order of capacity: |
