Akamas National Park

Akamas National Park

Akamas reserve is a national park, located at the cape in the northwest corner of Paphos, Cyprus covering an area of 230 square kilometres.

At the southern end of the peninsula is the town of Pegeia and on its northeast side the town of Polis.

It is mountainous peninsula with dirt tracks running through it, having an absolute plethora of natural attractions and pleasing tranquillity.

The loggerhead turtle sanctuary and the Baths of Aphrodite are located within its boundaries, as well as beaches, vast plains, rivers and forests.

The large diversity of flora and fauna have been noted by the European Environment Agency and the Akamas reserve is one of only 22 areas of endemic locations in Europe.

There are three gorges of note in the area being Androlykou Gorge and Petratis Gorge on the northern side of Akamas, accessible from Androlykou village and the more popular Avakas Gorge with its sheer cliffs and stream running through it, accessible from the south western side of the reserve, from St Georges and Coral Bay.
