With a capacity of 115 million cubic meters of water, the Kouris Dam is by far the largest reservoir in Cyprus. Situated in the Limassol district, in an area of steep valleys, it is fed by three rivers: Kouris, Limnatis and Kryos.

Built between 1984 and 1988, the entire village of Alassa had to be relocated; the new site of the village commands excellent views of the dam – and when the dam is particularly dry, old Alassa.

Since its construction, Kouris Dam, has overflowed only twice. The first time in March of 2004 and the second time in April 2012.
