Road Tax is due in January or June each year and is charged according to vehicle engine size, unladen weight and whether a petrol or diesel.
You may pay your road tax online at www.jccsmart.com, which is by far the fastest way to acquire your new Tax Disc. You may also pay at CO-OP Banks and selected commercial banks, or at a regional Department of Road Transport Registration center, or the Citizens advice bureau. You may also pay by monthly installments, however you will need to register at rtd.mcw.gov.cy/

NOTE: As of the 12th of March, 2010, the writing, attaching or displaying of any object on the windscreen of a vehicle is prohibited. This includes tax discs.

Fines for late payment: there is a 10 euro standing fine + 10% of the annual road tax, from the due date you have approximately 4 weeks, before the fine is applied.

You will not be able to renew your road tax, without a valid MOT, which is valid for two years from the date that your vehicle passes inspection.

If your MOT expires it will invalidate your road tax too, however if you book an appointment at an approved Vehicle Inspection Center for testing, you are permitted to legally drive the vehicle to the test center.
